Glossary

Academic Counselor
Academic Counselors are a great resource and you should visit them often (at least once every 2 quarters). They are your guides to help you take the right classes for your major.

AGS
Associated Graduate Students. Student Government representation for graduate students.

Aldrich Park
Located at the heart of the campus, this circular park features lush landscape which has become a key feature for which the UCI campus is known. The park has numerous paths connecting many parts of campus, which may save considerable travel time between classes.

ARC
The Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) is the student gym. The facility is located on California Ave. Amenities include an indoor track, and basketball, volleyball, racquet ball courts. Facilities also include the largest weight room on the UCI campus. In addition, the ARC offers a variety of physical fitness classes such as dance, martial arts, and sports classes.

Arroyo Vista
Arroyo Vista is an on-campus housing community located at the intersection of California Ave. and Arroyo Dr.

ASUCI
Associated Students of University of California, Irvine. The Student Government representation for the general student body.

Bookstore
The place to get all your course books, supplies, and UCI-branded paraphernalia. Located between Ring Road and Pereira Dr. next to the Aldrich Hall.

Cashier's Office
The Cashier's Office handles all fees, lab payments, and tuition payments. Checks can be made out to UC Regents.

Disability Services Center
DSC provides accommodations, services and aides for students with permanent or temporary disabilities.  Registration and current documentation is required. 

EEE
The Electronic Educational Environment (EEE) provides a variety of web services to help you learn better here at UCI and includes sites for professors to put additional class notes, personal web space, and other tools.

FAFSA
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) allows you to apply for financial aid.

General Catalogue
The General Catalogue is the MOST important book to successfully completing your schooling at UCI. It contains the listing of courses that you need to take to graduate, including General Education requirements (GE) and major courses (courses for the completion of your major). The General Catalogue also contains course descriptions and the information about University policies as they pertain to students.

ID Card
Your personal university identification card allows access to sporting events, the ARC, dining halls, and is also your free bus pass to all Orange County busses.

KUCI Radio Station Logo
KUCI
KUCI is UCI's very own FM radio station. Tune in to 88.9 FM when you're on campus to sample a highly eclectic music collection.

Mesa Court
One of the two freshmen residence halls located at the intersection of Campus Dr. and West Peltason.

Middle Earth
Residence hall with the main theme based on the Lord of the Ring Trilogy. Located on East Peltason on the edge of the main campus.

NewU
The NewU, or New University, is UCI's newspaper. New editions come out every Monday.

Pereira
The main access road of the main campus which services Aldrich Hall, the Student Center Parking Structure and the Social Science Parking Structure.

Peter
Peter is the name of our mascot, the anteater.

Placement Tests
Placement Tests are given in a variety of subjects to place you in the most appropriate class. You can also "test out" of certain requirements.

Registrar's Office
The Registrar provides educational support services and academic record management.

Ring Road
Ring Road or the Ring, as it's usually called, is one of the defining features of the campus. It circles the campus and connects many of the primary buildings around Aldrich Park. The Ring is one mile in circumference. The inner ring refers to the pathway around the inside edge of Aldrich Park.

Schedule of Classes
The Schedule of Classes is a listing of available classes for the term including dates, times, and locations to help you plan and register. The Schedule of Classes is accessed online through the Registrar's home page.

SPOP
The Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) is a required 2-day 1-night orientation for all incoming freshmen. Taking place throughout the summer, SPOP provides incoming first years with academic advising, course enrollment, an introduction to campus resources, a preview of campus life, and a chance to build a social network and make lifelong friends. Parents and guardians of freshmen are invited to attend an optional 1-day parent orientation as part of the second day of each SPOP.

Student Center
The Student Center is on to Ring Road. Opened in Fall 2007, the new Student Center features student services such as food courts, a gaming zone called the Zot Zone and expanded classrooms and conference rooms.

Student ID
Your student ID is an eight-digit number that identifies your academic records.

StudentAccess
StudentAccess is a website where you can update your address, apply for graduation and view your transcript, grades, and class enrollments.

Transfer Success
Transfer success is an optional 1-day orientation to life at UCI for new transfer students. The program offers incoming transfer students an opportunity to learn more about UCI and the resources available here, and sets transfers off on the right foot to becoming successful anteaters.

UCInetID
The UCInetID is your electronic identification to all UCI services online including email and all other campus web services such as the library, electronic voting, personal web space, WebReg, and StudentAccess.

University Center
Shopping and dining area located across the street from the main campus of UCI.

USHIP and GSHIP
The Undergraduate Student Health Insurance Program (USHIP) is health insurance coverage, provided to all students at the undergraduate level. More information and opt-out information can be found at the Student Health website. GSHIP is the Graduate Students Health Insurance Program.

Vista Del Campo/Vista Del Campo Norte
The newest additions to on campus student housing. Located on Arroyo Dr. next to Arroyo Vista.

WebReg
Use WebReg to enroll in classes - pick the ones you want from the online Schedule of Classes, then use your UCInetID to login to WebReg and enter the course code of each class.

Zot!
Anteater victory cheer! It's also what Peter the Anteater says when he snaps out his tongue to catch his food.

Zotbill
Your Zotbill is a monthly statement showing your tuition and other fees that you may owe to the University including possible laboratory fees. You can pay your Zotbill online.

ZotPortal
The campus' new web portal, released May 1, 2009, allows you to view your class schedule, financial aid & EEE alerts, and announcements from various campus departments all in once place. You can personalize ZotPortal with different skins and arrange the content to your liking.
